We offer organic, free-range chicken that is certified Global Animal Partnership Step 3, and sourced from US farms across the east coast. The animal’s feed is USDA Certified Organic which means it is grown with no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, animal byproducts, or GMOs. Free-range chickens have seasonal access to the outdoors where they can behave like chickens do, pecking, dust bathing, and exploring.
ButcherBox also carries a small line of pasture-raised, heirloom breed Chicken. This product is certified Global Animal Partnership, Step 4, meets the standards of Better Chicken Project, and is sourced from US farms in California. Pasture-raised chickens are able to move freely and behave naturally on pasture. Heirloom breed refers to a historic chicken breed that has a slower growth rate which can contribute to a richer flavor profile.
You can always be confident you’re getting what you picked – we clearly label whether a product is organic, free-range or pasture-raised, heirloom on the product card so you can see all the sourcing and standards for that product before you add it to your box.
