Sourcing Standards for ButcherBox Seafood:
- No antibiotics or added hormones ever
- Sustainably Harvested or Responsibly Farmed
- Third Party Sustainably Harvested Certified
We offer a wide variety of wild-caught seafood options, including fish like Alaskan Salmon, flaky cod, sablefish and halibut, Gulf shrimp, scallops, and lobster products. Wild-caught seafood spend their entire lives in the ocean where they can exhibit natural behaviors. Fisherman uphold strict sustainable harvesting practices and third-party certified by either the Marine Steward Council (MSC) or the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM). Our wild-caught seafood is sourced from fishermen harvesting in Bristol Bay Alaska, the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
We also offer a farm-raised Atlantic salmon sourced from a 3rd-generation, family-owned salmon farm off the coast of Kvaroy Island, Norway. Our farm-raised salmon is also never given antibiotics or added hormones, is third party certified by both the ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) and BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices), and is humanely raised in double net pens with careful consideration of 2% fish to 98% water ratios so they’re able to swim freely.
All our seafood items are clearly labeled whether they are wild-caught or farm-raised, and you can see the sourcing and standards information for each individual product before you add it to your box.
