Is ButcherBox packaging sustainable and eco-friendly?
We’re glad you asked. Sustainability is important to us, and we work hard to minimize waste. After many rounds of research and development, we've created a new box that is 100% recyclable and made from recycled materials. The inbuilt insulation is specially designed to keep your meat within the optimal temperature range.
By using recycled paper, in 2021 we were able to save: 76,500 Trees, 31,500,000 Gallons of Water, 4,500 tons of greenhouse emissions (SOURCE: The main studies used for the calculation are from the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency).

Is ButcherBox shipping sustainable and eco-friendly?
In addition to shipping with a 100% recyclable box, ButcherBox shipping is also carbon neutral. We’ve pursued environmental sustainability in our shipments by measuring, reducing, and offsetting the carbon emissions emitted by shipping your box to your door. Research shows that reducing carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions is a key action that our world needs to take to mitigate climate change.

ButcherBox shipping is carbon neutral, what does that mean?
Carbon neutral shipping means that the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere from transporting your ButcherBox from our fulfillment centers to your doorstep is equal to the amount of carbon ButcherBox has helped to absorb back into the earth and out of the atmosphere.
In order to achieve carbon neutral delivery, we took the following steps as a company:
- Measured our carbon emissions emitted to ship our product from our fulfillment centers to our customer’s doorsteps.
- Reduced emissions per order by reducing reships and reduce shipments utilizing air travel.
- Offset the remaining emissions by purchasing agricultural carbon credits. Farming practices such as cover-cropping and no-till can help enhance soil quality and sequester carbon.
